The client needed to lift-and-shift their on-premise estate to the Azure cloud, which included multiple production databases and applications. AL were engaged to help reset the Digital Service Operations team: to provide stable resources (including skilled engineers and a delivery manager), up-skill civil servants, improve existing services, reduce costs and introduce DevOps best practices where appropriate.

Our consultants were embedded in the client’s operations team and were tasked with automating repetitious, manual tasks with a DevOps tech stack while promoting the concept of a self-sufficient, structured team using Agile frameworks.


By decommissioning redundant resources (over 200 Virtual Machines), and purchasing Azure reservations for resources that had long-term futures, our consultants have reduced the annual Azure bill by over 20% and the number of supported VMs from over 800 to under 600. Teams are now self-sufficient and need half the number of people to support the workload. Automating the tedious manual tasks has considerably increased the available time for progressive project work, and has greatly reduced the number of P1/P2 incidents.
