Goals

This enterprise client’s goal was to exit multiple hosted data centres, moving those services to the cloud, as well as focusing on developing and releasing business value on a faster cadence and decoupling their hosting infrastructure into microservices.

Since joining the project, there has been a 74.91% reduction in the time from project creation to first successful deployment in production – 253 days in 2018 to 63.6 days in 2020, with the trend continuing to improve.

Outcomes

There is no longer a need to have a dedicated server, storage, networking or database admin if the software developers are empowered to do everything themselves. The goal of the client was to exit multiple hosted data centres, moving those services to the cloud, focusing on developing and releasing business value with greater frequency, and decoupling the supporting infrastructure into microservices.

AL enabled our client to successfully deploy 140 services to production, the success of this acceleration created a set of new stability and security challenges for them. But, the key to solving these new challenges was to prioritise operational stability above features and encourage adoption of best practices around security.
