It’s no surprise that demand for DevOps skills is outstripping supply. The world of web, platform and infrastructure delivery is changing, and new, agile methodologies of continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) require a rare set of talents. Sadly, the stork doesn’t deliver baby DevOps engineers. Surprisingly though, nor do universities. They do however turn out a talent-pool of incredible potential and relevance ready for DevOps training. Graduates from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) are trained in the key problem solving skills for success in DevOps consultancy and they often discover an affinity with programming and technology during their degree.
It’s a job for the technically brilliant all-rounder
DevOps engineers are highly valued because of their ability to use the most appropriate technology for the job at hand, to deliver beautiful solutions from a broad portfolio of proprietary and open source tools; and for their ability to interpret and deliver outcomes against a business-brief, using modern project methodologies, while building positive business relationships.
In the last 2 years, DevOps roles have increased from 2% to 7% of all engineering jobs in London, with average salaries rising at almost 7% per year, outstripping inflation and other technical skill-sets. This trend is nowhere near its zenith meaning employers are searching high and low for well-trained, affordable DevOps talent to deliver their technical aspirations.
The best-trodden path into DevOps is to move from a system development or system administration background and DevOps engineers from either background often relish the variety the role offers. However not all developers or system administrators are cut out for the challenges of a DevOps role, and the market has absorbed nearly all those who are interested and available.
What is needed now is a way for recent graduates to get the DevOps training they need to fast-track their career.
We’re fast-tracking the next generation of DevOps Engineers. With our existing expertise in DevOps tools, methodology and client experience, we are ideally placed to launch a Graduate Academy. We have created a unique, intensive 12 week on-site training program, from our offices in Waterloo, aimed at turning STEM graduates with good degrees into Junior DevOps Engineers, ready to be productive team members on our projects.
On the course our graduates take part in classroom style learning, building their understanding of DevOps tools by practical application of building labs, environments and platforms. There are visits to our banking and central government sites, tech-talks from Automation Logic engineers, DevOps mentors and a great team around you to make sure you are supported and on track to graduate and be ready for your first engineering assignment.
Automation Logic Academy Graduates stay with Automation Logic for two years after their course, to gain unparalleled real-world experience on our client sites while being supported by the Automation Logic team.
